With so many countries and places to visit for holidays, why did we choose Panama? We bet most of you have that question in mind about our choice or are curious about it at least.
As we didn’t have a big trip for a while and Rita always wanted to be in the beach for New Year’s (in Portugal it is winter…) we started to look for places in the southern hemisphere or around equador line for a trip between Christmas and New Year. And as we all surf/bodyboard in the family we also wanted somewhere we could catch a few waves but somewhere not very crowded and not that.
Our first option was Costa Rica and eventually a mix between Costa Rica and Panama. We started looking for good beaches in Costa Rica to surf and an itinerary for our trip. Soon we saw that doing the two countries wouldn’t be effective and we would loose a lot of time driving or catching flights. So we decided to stick with Costa Rica only.
Next step was to decide dates and check flights. We decided to leave on the 26th of December and return around the 5th of January. We first found flights with Iberia but when we got back to the agency to book them (2 weeks later)… the price had changed and it became really expensive.
After this shocking news we started to look for other options and then we thought “why not check prices for Panama?”. And so we did! Flight prices were much cheaper and we decided to move.
It was a less known country for us. Usually more friends we know have been to Costa Rica and have tips and stories to tell. But for Panama there was no close friend or family to help. So we started googling about it and planning our itinerary (of course looking for beaches to surf).
We soon discovered Bocas del Toro, San Blas Islands, Santa Catalina, Panama Canal, Colon, Valle de Anton,…
